Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli

Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli is a fusion of the classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich and the Italian stromboli, resulting in a delicious, cheesy, and savory baked roll filled with tender steak, peppers, onions, and melted cheese. Perfect for a party or a cozy family dinner!

Ingredients:

For the Filling:

  • 1 lb ribeye steak or flank steak (thinly sliced)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 green bell pepper (thinly sliced)
  • 1 onion (thinly sliced)
  • 1 cup mushrooms (optional, sliced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 6-8 slices provolone cheese (or 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella)

For the Dough:

  • 1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for brushing)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

2. Cook the Filling:

  • Sear the steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced steak and cook for 3-4 minutes until browned. Season with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  • Cook the vegetables: In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed. Sauté the bell pepper, onion, and mushrooms (if using) for about 5-7 minutes, until softened and slightly caramelized. Add minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Combine the filling: Mix the cooked steak back into the skillet with the veggies. Remove from heat and let the filling cool slightly.

3. Prepare the Dough:

  • Roll out the pizza dough into a large rectangle (about 12×14 inches) on a floured surface. Make sure it’s an even thickness to ensure even cooking.

4. Assemble the Stromboli:

  • Layer the filling: Lay the slices of provolone cheese (or sprinkle mozzarella) evenly across the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges. Spoon the steak and vegetable mixture evenly over the cheese.
  • Roll the stromboli: Starting from one long side, carefully roll the dough into a tight log. Pinch the edges and seams to seal the stromboli completely.

5. Bake the Stromboli:

  • Place the stromboli seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Brush the top with olive oil, then make a few small slits on top to allow steam to escape during baking.
  • If desired, sprinkle Italian seasoning and sesame seeds over the top for extra flavor and texture.
  • Egg wash: In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush it over the top of the stromboli for a golden finish.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.

6. Slice and Serve:

  • Let the stromboli cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing it into thick pieces.
  • Serve with marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce on the side.

Enjoy the cheesy, savory goodness of this Philly Cheesesteak Stromboli—crispy on the outside, gooey and flavorful on the inside! Perfect for any occasion.
